The theme for World Environment Day 2023 is 'Solutions to Plastic Pollution'

Under the theme Solutions to plastic pollutionWorld Environment Day 2023 will be observed highlighting the need to solve growing plastic pollution crisis by scaling up and speedy actions of governments, companies and other stakeholders.

More than 400 million tonnes of single use plastic is produced every year worldwide out of that only less than 10 per cent is recycled. Discarded or burnt single-use plastic harms human as well as all living creatures health and biodiversity and pollutes ecosystem. The theme of World Environment Day 2023 seeks solutions to plastic pollution with available science and combine action of all of us so that we can #BeatPlasticPollution.

OUR ACTIONS

Do not litter the environment by throwing plastic items
Do not use Thermocol (resin code #6 PS) for your school projects.
Do not use one-time use or throwaway plastics like plastics bags, tea cups, Thermocol plates and cups, and plastic straws

Avoid using plastic straws and stir sticks at home and in restaurants. Shop in bulk with reusable containers and avoid purchasing items with excessive packaging.

4 R's to help reduce consumption of single-use plastics
Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose/Upcycle, Recycle –

These 4 R's are extremely important when it comes to sustainable living and help manifest environmentally responsible consumer behavior. They all aim to reduce the amount of waste we create, which will not only save money but conserve natural resources and energy as well.
Use Plastic Alternatives.
  1. We can use reusable tap water for drinking instead of buying plastic bottled water from shops and restaurants.
  2. We should use cotton bags instead of plastic grocery bags.
  3. We should say no to plastic grocery products
