Today, our Class 5 scientists turned into heat detectives to explore the fascinating world of thermal conductivity.
Using a bowl of hot water and three different spoons (metal, plastic, and wood), students set up a race. They attached a small bead to the handle of each spoon using a dab of petroleum jelly. The big question of the day was: Which bead will fall first?
As the students watched eagerly, the results were clear:
- 🥇 Metal took first place! The heat zipped up the spoon, melted the jelly, and dropped the bead in record time, proving it is an excellent conductor.
- 🪵 Wood and 🛍️ Plastic acted as insulators, holding back the heat and keeping their beads safely attached.
This hands-on group activity was a fantastic, visual way for students to see how energy moves through different materials.
