Students performed an activity where they mixed the starch solution with iodine solution . Starch turns blue with iodine .Then students mixed the cold starch solution with saliva and then added iodine solution to it .Starch turned blue but as the starch turns into sugars by action of saliva the blue color fades away and turns trabsparent .
Students reach to conclusion that enzymes present in saliva breakdown starch into sugars .
Application
We should chew food so all the food mixes well with saliva and complete breakdown of starch in food occur into sugar . This helps to reduce flatulence and constipation .
