LIBRARY WEEK 2017

 
DAV PUSHPANJALI organized library week from   -4th Nov to 9th nov . Scholastic India  Publications set up their book stalls to  "encourage children  to read in their increasing leisure time"
If children are motivated to read, they would  enhance their creative skills too.
Celebrations during Library Week included:
quiz competition for class vi students . Aarush  Kaushik  bagged first prize in the quiz. congratulations ! to Aarush

CLASS V AIR CHAPTER ACTIVITY


 

 Students of class VA Primus performed some activities to learn properties of air .
Students knew Pure air is colour less  ,odour less and taste less but learned
Air exerts pressure .
Air has weight .
Air occupies space .
Students were excited to see how a cardboard can stick to a glass of water  and how a handkerchief in a glass  dipped in bucket full of water remain dry.
After learning properties  and performing  experiments they  believed  in  science facts .
learning and fun went hand in hand .

Class iv activity water survey at home

 
Students of class iv A  did a water survey to learn how many litres of water is used by  us for our daily  chores . Students counted their family members and listed all activites
 done at home that consume water and estimated water  used by them in a day as 250 litres .


class activity electric circuits vi

Class vi students did series of activities to learn chapter electric current . They first made a simple circuit  and  glow a bulb  using electric wires , battery and  LED Lights .They used motor and a toy fan to run it using electric energy from battery. Students used aluminium foil ,rubber , plastic , cloth , metal key to check if bulb glows and differentiate between conductor and insulator . A  circuit was also prepared where safety pin acted as switch to start and stop flow of current.

Visit to school Herbal garden CLASS VI

 
 
 
 
Students of class VI A PRIMUS visited school garden  to observe and learn diversity in plants .They saw nodes on stems. different shapes of leaves . snail with shell moving on moist soil floor .Papaya plant with different male and female flowers .
Tall palm trees and plants used as hedges as henna plant. They also saw plants with vegetative reproduction growing  in waste plastic bottles .

MY BODY CLASS IV ACTIVITIES ON TEETH , TONGUE , SALIVA ,VILLI AND PERISTALSIS.


Students of class IV A enjoyed many  activities  during chapter -MY  BODY  .First the students learnt internal and external body parts .

They started to learn digestive system with food moving through the oesophagus by peristalsis movement shown with help of potato and socks.

Students chewed the chappati from lunch box slowly and felt it was sweet in taste at the end thereby learning saliva in mouth turn starch in chappati into sugars.





Students in groups were given some powdered food items and tell their taste .Students named four major taste and located the position of taste buds in tongue.




















Students used moulding clay to learn different parts of tooth.


 
Students used wool  to make inner wall of small intestine showing folds to increase absorption surface .

In India, mostly we find lotus seed in dried form called as Makhana or gorgon nut.Most of us are unaware of its health benefits and its recommended level to consume it.

By consuming 100 grams of Lotus seed one would get 350 calories and there is around 63-68 grams carbohydrate ), 17-18 grams of protein, and only 1.9-2.5 grams fat; the remainder is water, about 13%, and minerals (mainly sodium, potassium, calcium, and phosphorus.
 As a protein source, lotus seeds are relatively good, with a one ounce serving (of dried seeds) providing 5 grams. Lotus seeds are low in fibre.

Health Benefits
1.Helpful in diarrhea -lotus seeds is helpful in stopping chronic diarrhea.As it contains a high amount of astringent properties and also consumed to improve appetite.
Also, people who are suffering from constipation should avoid it.
2. Their low sodium and high magnesium content make them for those suffering from heart disease, diabetes , high blood pressure and obesity.
3.These seeds contain an anti-ageing enzyme,which is believed to repair damaged protein.
4.As per Ayurveda, Lotus seeds have astringent properties that have specific benefits to the kidney.
5. Lotus seeds also contain kaempferol,a natural flavonoid that prevents inflammation and ageing.
How can it be consumed?
1.      Dried lotus seeds can be soaked in water overweight prior to use.They can be added directly to soups, salads or used in other dishes.
2.      Puffed seeds (makhana) are used in kheer, curries, puddings and as a dry-roasted snack.

It can hold a promising future among gluten-free foods.It can be blended with flours and dals and could be low-cost food to combat malnutrition, prevalent in India.
Hence, introduce Lotus seed in your evening snack by keeping a check on its quantity.
